NEW MUSIC: Muthoni the Drummer Queen - 'Welcome to the Disco'

The Drummer Queen has done it Again!

Her new jam is Welcome to the disco which is effectually a club banger- that's if you will agree with me. Its basically about a woman getting ready to go out, getting there and the fun of the disco. Hope the video does justice to the song.

It has that electronic-euro centric afro-fusion kinda feel thanx to Robert 'Wawesh' Kiboy who also does Sauti sol's Stuff.

What's your take on it? Holla and let us know.

SONY'S UPCOMING TABLETS

Sony's Upcoming Tablets have generally been getting quite some publicity, that is, for Products that aren't officially on the Market as Yet!

I think their strategy is to improve on the apps and specs before a roll-out in order to have a product close to market demands.

The two models S1 and S2; S2 probably seems better since the when folded can fit in the pocket.

Techland review of Sony's Tablets provides more info.

Tell us what you think, Is this just another Tablet fad soon to fade away?

Google+ already at 10 million users!

Google+ Is the social network abuzz around the globe. It's popularity has caught Google off a bit but they are working on changes as each moment passes.

It already has about 10 million users according to geek.com after only 2 weeks with numbers set to get to the 20 million mark at the close of this week.

Now, that's bound to make the hair on Mark Zuckerberg's neck stand if the progression continues.

The Google+ features seem to have capitalised on Facebook's weaknesses pronto plus creating apps which ease group chat and photo uploading.

Have a go at Google+ and tell us what you think!

NEW MUSIC

The Godfather of Genge a.k.a Nonini a.k.a Nonz has churned the video for the track 'I Got It' which feats Tobias. I know! The guy is a paul wall look-alike. It seems Nonz is not about to chillax even after a 2-month tour in the States, a month in Dubai and being the first African Artist with an Iphone - app.

Its a positive turn after all the bad press Nonini has been getting after a scuffle with a Pulse photographer. Word has it that leo he was to report back to LA police station after being booked there last week.

Back to the Video, it has good sights plus the cranck beat is on point. What do you think?

DATA-HUNGRY SMARTPHONE APPS

Hello World! This is for those of you who use Smartphones and are constantly complaining of quick uptake of data

I came across a great read with the same title, i.e data-hungry smartphone apps which is sort of a guide for navigating from those apps which 'eat' up all your data.

The general running theme for each popular app is to see how much you can get per app for 2GB of data per month.

Read on and share your thoughts here on sms3707social

SUBTLE TALES IN A TRAIN!

Reader discretion: This Tale may contain certain sheng' cliches, so kindly contact ur Eastlando buddy to translate. Not really!

'Imajin ati zion wanaongeza bei' somebody ranted from behind me as I squeezed my way through the narrow gates of the Nairobi Railway station to ride the 5.30pm Train towards 'D'

You all know by now that the train always has room for one more as is evident in this photo from the archive. So i got in and poxed myself kwa what used to be a toilee he he...
Enroute there, am greeted by the usual chorus 'karanga' 'njugu' 'karanga' and who am I (mimi nani) not to get myself 5 bob worth of njugu to make the ride worthwhile- at least for the teeth. Today the 'zion' has 'fewer' people meaning i have space to move about kiasi. 'Airtime nani' continues the song interjected by bars of  'Tropical tano'.

Back to the Intro: Imajin even fare for Train is going up! Your usual trip to Dandoo ama D which cost 25bob will now be 40bob come 11th July. Man! Stress. Ask the people who do Train rides and they will give you a litany of  what the extra 15bob can do- that's if they pay at all.

Once the Zion starts snaking away, the next cabin begins..........'Bwana asifiwe'   'Amen".... The Train service has began in earnest with the leader calling on the praise and worship team to take over......Back at our cabin, the students next to me review their day @ skul and how DH was glorious today. Apparently the fourth formers weren't around and the Third ones had a field day with the food.

'siku hizi rwabe ni ya Maziwa ma KaUnga tu' I'm interupted as i follow into another conversation. 'Hii forty bob nani atalipa sasa; afadhali ningoje mat na hiyo doo'. " Eeeh" I enthusiastically join in. "Ubaya ni Jam". 'Unajua Ze ze haina jam. ni teke teke.

'Ticket hapo' - the conductor has fikad our cabin and needs proof of payment, otherwise Money. Inflation is  competing with the sky and times are tough but herein are some measures you can take to cushion a bit.

We are already in Mtindwa hapo Umoja. And a few get off, a few board and off we snake deeper into Eastlando. The Conductor is of the Idea that maybe come Monday, 'Let's see' coz watu wa Kibera hawawezi lipa more than mbao so watatutetea sisi wengine. Ama Reli ingolewe...he he. surely, They will riot!

Am about to get off at K-South but not before I hear the preacher say: Haleluyah!! Pia wewe Mungu atakuonekania, Kesho unaweza wacha kutumia Train uwe na Prado. Now now, even you can say Amen to that!

BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE KENYA! #badCSKe

Bad Customer service is the norm in Kenya; So bad is the experience that bad is rather a shy word to use to coin the experience many a customer goes through at each service or product moment!

It is informed by this that guys have created the trend : #badCSKe on twitter to name and shame the companies who have made it the norm to have bad customer service.

I believe times may be changing and that may be the thinking behind business daily's new survey on kenya's top companies. Top 10 aims at finding the best in Kenya. Most companies have their fingers crossed and the reality will show up in the findings of the survey.

Ng'ethe Githinji ; A blogger shared the news of the survey on twitter as pay-back time thus:

@timmunene thanks. #buildthenation payback time for #goodCSKe and #badCSKe @ http://bit.ly/kiBdMU vote for kenya's top companies cc thanks

In the meantime, let's celebrate those doing an awesome job like sms3707 who have a great directory.

NEW MUSIC!

Kenya's Music scene has come a long way and right now gospel is the in-thang!

What with M.O.G feat Juliani  New single "MY CALL" doing great in its first few days. The song is bound to be a favorite with awesome vocals and lyrics recorded at Homeboyz. Its seems the new sound of great music is  Dillie of Homeboyz who also produced Juliani's "Bahasha ya Ocampo". In my view, Dillie's sound is in a word: International. You can't quite categorize this new single. Its a mix of pop, ragga and R n B. The videography is sterling quality courtesy of Big ideas; add to that the awesome dancing which makes the Single a winner. My bet is that it will be a numerous award-winner when the red-carpet is rolled out.

If you want to check out when your favourite artist will be at your favourite venue, just sms3707. And oh yeah! about the video, don't just take my word for it, check it out and tell me what you think!

TOMORROW'S BUSINESS

Today's world is rapidly changing coz of technology, What with all the opening space in the cyberworld. To be successful Tomorrow, you have to see it Today and seize it.

Sunny bindra, popular management guru asserts that the future of business is in the palm of your hand. The mobile phone as it is, represents the converging of all that is technology and to be in the future, you have to seize the applications of this gadget.

That's why the buzz around town is the pivot25 conference currently being held in Nairobi about mobile apps and developer. Of great note is rather not the grandiose meeting of minds but the absentees.

Yes, the absentees who can't 'see' tomorrow and would rather chillax. These livid thoughts are aptly put forth by business Journalist Larry Madowo thus:

"How telling is it that Tigo - a Tanzanian operator - sponsored yet all local carriers stayed  away?"

You would think all financial institutions would be fighting over sponsoring an entrepreneurial mind-meet but No! its only Equity bank who are bold enough to believe in tech stuff. And the should since they were the first to do a mobile money account. Apparently, they believe the future will have a mobile money account - at least for the significant part of the day!

I would blubber alot but let the following ideas I came across mull over in your mind
sms3707 - all the info you want on a text message
Mfarm - Prices for fresh food available for farmers.

The general idea is that the mobile phone will work for you a great deal if you can envision Tomorrow!

TOUGH TIMES!

They do say that tough times don’t last but tough people do and that’s what it will take to get through the current cycle of economic turmoil – TO OUTLAST IT!

Getting through this season will take more than a smile; it needs a realistic person and tightening the belt. Is it just me or are more and more people you meet everyday – at work, in school, at the supermarket or even a stranger has a ‘colossal bad- day syndrome’ and is trying to pass it on to the next fella like H1N1. Well, not me; I have decided to have a good day, good week and please! Don’t give me your attitude- I got one of my own. Sincerely, they do say life is 10% is what happens to you (every day) and 90% how you react to it. So no matter how hard you try to pull me into your argument, I’ll let it slide; it’s just not worth it!

What? With everything you can grab your hands on suddenly growing out of sight with every passing nanosecond at the rate of every shilling, ten bob and a hundred bob. 3k at the super has overnight shrunk its value to like 500 bob but thanks to Ukwala who have the greatest prices anywhere now. At least with them you can save some few coins for your fare kesho! The rest are just PR hoaxes. By the way, what’s the use of smart points on your smart card if I can’t afford what’s on your shelves (just a rant?)

Don’t get me started with the fuel! Please no! Just when gava decides to ‘regulate’ pump prices, all the oil marketers have a impulsive muscle pull and can’t manage to get the 17 million litres waiting to be collected at refinery. ‘The cartels are at it again’ give me a break, the politicians are the cartels, they are the goons! Ooops! Sorry! I remembered my speech hapo mbele about positive ATT and what not. So mmmmmmmh! Relax! Just when you thought the show was over, the script gets a new twist, the shortage might go on for seven days as the marketers continue to hoard (nyima us) onto fuel in anticipation of price surges. Blistering barnacles! Thundering typhoons (my tantrum is over). So you know what that means; nimehama klub ya mat sasa mimi hutumia Train!

Everything is going up; water, food, fuel just about everything except people’s tempers, they are getting short by the minute coz of the economic turn of things. Don’t despair, there’s one more – it will soon cost you more to die! That’s according to the mortuary guys who intend on reviewing their rates upwards. (come to think of it no one reviews their rates downwards).

And for those of you asking about jana’s traffic snurl up at westy, it was coz people were looking for mafuta everywhere but they created one big packing lot instead. Its better walking nowadays, saves you money and keeps you fit. Enough with the rhetoric; here now are Tips on reducing cost of living courtesy of SMS3707

#1: do your fresh produce shopping at bulk markets such as Githurai, marikiti, korogocho and you won’t believe how much you have been paying. Do your households shopping at Ukwala, you won’t believe what a k can get you.

#2: Replace beer with laughter so as to have temporal relief coz of those pending life stresses, its free and has no hang-over.

#3: Have your lunch delivered to your office. For as little or as much as 60 bob (depending on your pocket size) you could have mukimo and vegez with kachumbari. Saves you the sitting and service cost you pay at your favorite restaurant. If you can find lunch worth less than 200 bob anywhere just say I! And al be there in a jiffy and buy you a plate while at it!

#4: Be realistic, those evenings out could be replaced by a Saturday picnic at the arboretum with packed lunch. All you got to pay for is the fare! Now that’s affordable (trying hard to avoid the C.H.E.A.P word – has a lot of negative connotations especially if you are trying hard to win a sister in these tough economic times).

#5: Use sms3707 to get the latest events in town to toa stress kidogo; it’s very affordable (pun intended). Okey its cheap just 5/=. Five bob tu!

Have a great day, and OUTLAST these trying times!

PS: Av just had my 60 bob lunch and at exactly 5.30pm al be at the train station for my ride at only 35 bob! Now that’s CHEAP!

BAHASHA YA OCAMPO!!

.....niliponea bahasha ya Ocampo oooooh! lakini kile naogopa hata zaidi, finger of God ikinipoint......

So goes the freshest hit 'bahasha ya Ocampo' off his sophomore album " Pulpit kwa streets".

In a phrase, Julius Owino aka Juliani is a lyrical guru who is going , going, gone places. He has in the last four years carved quite a hip-hop niche for himself and his second album has likely cemented his place as Kenya's hip-hop finest sitting on the shoulders of his MauMau mentors, Kalamashaka.

Juliani's song addresses society's social ills and ironically, doesn't address the title of the track. The title is but a common phrase in National dialogue which is saturated with trials at the Hague and the awed ICC prosecutor Ocampo. Its witty and timely since most Kenyans have adopted a fear for the Ocampo figure but Juliani raises a bigger issue which is reverent fear of God rather than fearing mortal man.

The hip-hopper is bound to go places judging by the endorsements coming his way. He is bound to thrill his fans this at the CHAT Awards, which will be held this weekend at the Carnivore Grounds.

Which calls to mind the sms3707 service on your mobile phone which updates you on  what's happening at your favourite venue or you just follow your favourite artist to where they will be next. kind of nifty don't you think?

Back to juliani, my favourite line in that whole song is:
".............. Walivaa high heels;
                Wakaribie heaven;
                Nili-bend knees;
                Nika-touch heaven............"
